Author: Aurorita248
Rated: T
Warnings: A bit of horror, slash
Summary: What sparked the 'Paul is Dead?' rumor? A car crash that knocked him into a coma did it! Until he recovers, the Beatles are jamming with someone calling himself William Campbell who not only looks like Paul, but can also sing and play bass like him. Simultaneously, ghostly encounters of a strange kind begin to tamper with the Beatles and their recordings. Does it relate to William Campbell's strange appearance? Or is there something else in the works?
Notes: This story is dedicated to deviantart user 'darkangel1313' for being the winner of my Beatles Tale Cover Contest. This is also based on the infamous 'Paul is Dead' rumor. The title was given to me by deviantart user cherry-blossom-fan, and I do not own the following names.

Prologue-Crash and Burn

"There is only one of you in this world."

There could be only one of you in a single universe, in existence or just there. Even if one has a twin, they aren't specifically the other twin.

However, in the supernatural world, doubles are easy to create. The doppelganger—German for double—is considered a spirit copy of a person. They can look like a person, act like a person, and even speak like that person...but in different areas and myths around the world, they each have different stories.

In some cultures, there can be a double that acts and has the memories of a person. Others are just created but otherwise have no specific personalities of their own.

Then there are the cursed ones. If friends or family encounter a doppelganger, it is only just a bringer of destruction and danger. If a person sees their own doppelganger, death will soon be on their doorstep.

Today, I bring you a tale about a doppelganger that wouldn't disappear. It all started with a slam of the door.

"For the love of Sgt. Pepper..." Paul muttered to himself, eyes on the road. "Why can't they just listen to me?!"

Paul was driving his car on the road, trying to clear his head of what happened. The four Beatles got into a fight—which was exceedingly rare—and Paul decided to go for a drive. He needed a well deserved drive.

"I just wish I didn't have this responsibility all the time." Paul muttered to himself. "But John's lazy, George is too young and Ringo's...just Ringo."

Paul was so caught up with his wish that he didn't see a car coming his way. He immediately swerved to the left, not noticing what awaited him.

Before he knew it, there was a crash, and everything went black.

On November 9th, 1966, Paul McCartney was found in a coma.

He was rushed into the emergency room, his eyes closed shut, and scars covering his body. An oxygen mask was sustaining the amount of oxygen he needed to be alive, but it didn't look like he'd wake up anytime soon.

John, George, Ringo and Brian heard the crash not far from where they were—they went out searching for Paul—and immediately called for an ambulance to pick him up. His car was crushed and his body was still in the wreckage. His airbag was deployed, but he he was bruised.

"They were only minor injuries." Brian explained to the other three Beatles. "However, he'll be stuck in a coma for who knows how long..."

"What do we do?" asked John. "He had half of the song ideas that was gonna be used for our next album!"

"Did he write them all down?" asked George.

"He did, just in the emergency that I was too high to forget them." John answered. "But he was our bass player...."

"And you love him." Ringo noted.

"Yeah, I...hey!" said John, turning to the drummer.

"It's true though." said George. "We didn't know he'd end up in the hospital. All we wanted to do was ask him for forgiveness."

"What do we do now?" asked Ringo.

"We go home and try to find someone to replace Paul." Brian answered. "It'll only be temporary, and just until Paul wakes up."

"I hope he wakes up soon." said John. "I didn't even get to say I'm sorry..."

John sighed as he stood up and began to walk out of the hospital. Brian, Ringo and George followed, leaving Paul to rest. The bassist was quiet, unable to say or see anything except darkness.

When the Beatles arrived to their hotel, they were in for quite a shock. The place was clean and sparkly, everything was piled and stack, and dinner was waiting for them. There were candles floating on small trays that brought a glow into the evening.

"Welcome home," said a voice. "Please, make yourself comfortable."

A figure appeared in the room, dressed in black pants, a sweater vest and long sleeved shirt. He smiled calmly and bowed to the four.

"P-Paul McCartney?" asked John. "You can't be him...you...are..."

"I'm sorry for the trouble," said the person. "Please, call me William Campbell. I hope you consider me to be your replacement bassist."
