The Beatles Cartoon

Episode: She's Leaving Home

Summary: The Beatles are asking for song requests on the radio station. A husband and wife ask them to play a song that would reach the heart of their daughter. John and Paul began to sing the ballad to the girl so the family would reunite.
___ ___ ___ ___ ___

"Listen up, everyone!" said John. "You're listening to BEAT radio, where we play all the songs by your favorite Liverpool lads."

The Beatles were in their radio station, playing some songs for the crowd. The station was built to help get the people to know about their songs whenever they were away touring or were on some crazy adventure. Today, they were off to play some of their songs for the listeners in England.

"We've got a call from Penny Lane coming up." said Paul. "Who is this?"

"Is this the Beatles?" asked a voice. It was a woman's. "Hello, my name is Irene Hopper. May I make a request?"

"Of course!" said George. "What is it?"

"I want you to send this message to my daughter." Irene explained. "She ran away from home and my husband, Jacob and I...we want her back."

"Tell us the story, ma'am." said Ringo.

"She just left one Wednesday morning and left us a note." said Irene. "My husband, Fredrick has been searching for her....she's been gone for about ten days now.

"Please, at least have the heart to send her a message..."

"We'll do our best madam." said John. "Please tune to the radio in half an hour, and we'll have something for you."

"May the queen bless your deal souls. Thank you so much."

Rachel Hopper, daughter of Irene Hopper, was at the park, sleeping on a bench. She had a radio next to her, listening to the music. She ran away from home, wanting to get away from the suffocating love her parents gave her. Sighing as she was reading the newspaper, there was a small article of her status of being missed.

"Stupid mom, stupid dad." She muttered to herself. "I like being by myself...you don't understand me."

"Hey everyone, this is BEAT!" Ringo's voice announced through the air waves. "We're having a request for one Irene Hopper to her daughter, wherever she is."

"We have a song that's going to be sung by our very own John and Paul." George added. "For Irene and Fredrick Hopper's daughter, this song is for you."

"It's some sort of stupid motivational crap." said Rachel, turning to the side. "Still, it is the Beatles..."

The music began to play. It was a beautiful harp melody, the strings being plucked by a nymph's nimble fingers.

Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins....
Silently closing the bedroom door...
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more...

She goes downstairs to the kitchen, clutching her handkerchief...
Quietly turning the backdoor key...
Stepping outside she is free...

Hidden beneath the lyrics and harp strings were the cello and voice singing. Rachel felt her heart soften...this is exactly how it happened. Still, she turned away from the radio and listened to the chorus.

She...(We gave her most of our lives)
Is leaving...(Sacrificed most of our lives)
Home...(We gave her everything money can buy)

She's leaving home after living alone for so many years...

"I did," Rachel murmured. She kept silent as the next set of lyrics appeared.

Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone on the top of the stairs

She breaks down and cries to her husband, "Daddy, our baby's gone....
"Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly?
How could she do this to me?"

"Well, I didn't mean to." Rachel whispered, tears starting to form in her eyes. "I...just...."

She (We never thought of ourselves)
Is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves...)
Home (We struggled all of our lives to get by)

She's leaving home after living alone for so many years...

"So did they did care...."

Rachel sat up and placed the radio on her lap. Dressed in her black hooded jacket and jeans, she began to sob.

Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made...
Meeting a man from the motor trade...

She (What did we do that was wrong?)
Is having (We didn't know that it was wrong)
Fun (Fun is the one thing that money can't buy...)

She's leaving home after living alone for so many years...

By then, Rachel's eyes were shut and tears fell down. She had to go back to her family....

She's leaving home....
Bye, bye...

"Wow, Ringo," said Paul. "I didn't know you could play the harp."

"I didn't know either." Ringo replied, his hands plucking some harp strings.

"And George was good at multi-tasking." said John. "He played the cello and violin at the same time."

"You owe me, for this..." George panted, landing on the floor.

"Now we have to wait for the results." said Paul, seating himself on a chair. "So...who's up for fish and chips on me?"

"I'm up." said John.

"Me too!" said George.

"Wait for me!" said Ringo, placing the harp away.

The four laughed and left the radio station, signing off for the day.

Irene stared at a photo in her hand. It was her, Fredrick and Rachel smiling underneath the shade of a giant tree. What happened to that memory and those smiles? All of this time, she didn't pay attention to what Rachel needed. Now she was gone.

She heard a knock on the door. Irene lifted her head and gasped. Was it her? Did her baby come home?

She walked toward the door and opened it. Standing in front of her was her daughter.

"You're home," Irene whispered. Tears fell down her eyes.

"Well I was going to come back." Rachel said with a shrug of her shoulders. Irene immediately hugged her and sobbed on her shoulder.

"Honey," said Irene, turning to the kitchen. "Look who came back!"

Fredrick, a man with short blonde hair and blue eyes walked in and immediately rushed up to hug his wife and daughter.

"Hi, dad." Rachel whispered.

"Welcome home, love." said Fredrick. "Welcome home..."
